Deb Barwick, a proud Gamilaroi Yinaar (woman) is the CEO of the NSW Indigenous Chamber of Commerce and a national and international award-winning entrepreneur. She is dedicated to advancing Indigenous leadership as a vital component of Australia’s social and economic future. In 2006, Deb founded Australia’s first Indigenous Chamber of Commerce, followed by the establishment of a state chamber in 2009 and a national chamber in 2016 to unite Indigenous businesses throughout Australia and globally. Today, this network represents thousands of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses supplying to local, state, and international markets.
Deb’s leadership has been recognized with the NSW Premier’s Award for Excellence, honoring her work in supporting Indigenous business growth and promoting their inclusion in government and industry supply chains. Her own company, Winya Indigenous Furniture, has won many awards, including the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply’s Business of the Year. In 2018, Winya also became the first Australian company to win a United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Award.
